South Miami Area Hospital's MicroEndodontic Surgery Training Will Benefit Patients At Home and Abroad

MIAMI, Aug. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Larkin Community Hospital (LCH), one of Florida's twelve statutory teaching hospitals, will host an international dental teaching symposium at Jessie Trice Community Health Center in Miami on August 22nd - August 24th. (Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20130320/CL77605) Attendees from three universities in Peru - Universidad Inca Garcilazo de la Vega, Universidad Cayetano Heredia, and Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas will be joined by Miami area dentists to learn about the latest in Endodontic Microsurgery.  The advanced training will provide important benefits for patients requiring root canals and canal procedures.  With the unparalleled benefits of a sophisticated dental microscope, higher magnification and improved visual acuity allows doctors to see features and the full scope of a dental problem that would otherwise not be visible.  This advanced optic ability improves the range of treatment options available, while improving patient outcomes by assuring infections and other tooth canal problems can be treated in one procedure and often prevent tooth removal. The Larkin Community Hospital symposium will also feature the latest in techniques in areas such as proper cleaning to help dentists in Peru as well as Miami-area dentists to provide the highest quality of care.  Symposium organizers are Dr. Bertram Moldauer, Director Advanced Education in General Dentistry and Chairman of Endodontics at Larkin Community Hospital and Robert L. Perdomo III, D.M.D. Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer of Medical Dental Education at Larkin Community Hospital note that while Surgical Operating Microscopes (SOMs) have been widely used in many medical specialties over the last few decades, they have experienced only limited use in dentistry.  "It is universally recognized that what often influences the quality of treatment is the level to which a clinician can see.  Advanced microsurgery is transforming the way modern clinicians operate and that has a direct impact on the quality of care and the outcomes for dental patients," said Dr. Moldauer. A featured presenter at the symposium will be Dr. Aizik Wolf, Medical Director of the Miami Neuroscience Center at Larkin Community Hospital.  Dr. Wolf will be presenting on Trigeminal Neuralgia or TN, an excruciatingly painful condition that is often misdiagnosed as a dental problem.  Dr. Wolf has successfully used Gamma Knife®, a noninvasive surgery, to treat more than a thousand patients afflicted with the physically and mentally incapacitating disease. Joining the prestigious gathering will be the General Counsel of the Republic of Peru in the U.S.  The Ambassador Enrique Bustamante Llosa will be offering opening remarks at the symposium.  The symposium follows recently signed affiliation agreements with Larkin's Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program.
