Larkin Community Hospital (LCH) http://larkinhospital.com is one of 12 designated Statutory Teaching Hospitals in Florida and the largest teaching hospital for Osteopathic physicians in the United States, offering the largest number of AOA Accredited training programs (32 at present): http://www.graduatemedicaleducation.org/ Larkin takes pride in the continuing tradition of caring and we remain dedicated to providing excellent medical care with the personal touch and convenience that only a community hospital can offer. Larkin Community Hospital acquired 50 acres of land located 12 miles south of our South Miami Campus which will become Larkin University, a private not-for-profit university.

The University will begin as a Health Sciences University. The University (doing business as Larkin Health Science Institute –LHSI - http://larkinhospital.com/site/lhsi/ ) is currently operating The College of Biomedical Sciences and School of Nursing from the Hospital Campus. The first phase of construction includes an 80,000 square foot building to house the new College of Pharmacy. The second building will be to relocate the School of Nursing and College of Biomedical Sciences. Following will be a College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Dentistry, student housing, a fitness center, a medical/professional office building, and related support buildings. The University will be the first private health sciences university in Florida with its own already existing teaching hospital.

The Founding Dean for the College of Pharmacy has been the Vice President of the Graduate Medical Education Department and Chief Academic Officer for the past year in order to be integrally involved in the developing University and all the graduate medical programs. The Dean will now begin the ACPE/SACS accreditation process. The College plans to matriculate the first class in August 2016 to begin an integrated three-year block program. The College is currently recruiting for the administrative team to begin in January 2015.

The Chair for the Department of Clinical and Practice Sciences will be responsible for recruitment of their department which according to the hiring plan will include approximately sixteen department faculty over a three year period. The Chair will be expected to mentor the faculty to become clinical scholars involved in teaching (didactic and clinical), service to the profession and the community, and research. The Chair will be integral in working with the Chair of Pharmaceutical Sciences to develop a fully integrated curriculum using many active learning opportunities.

The Chair for the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences will be responsible for recruitment of their department which according to the hiring plan will include approximately ten department faculty over a two year period. The Chair will be expected to mentor the faculty to become basic science or translational scholars involved in teaching, service to the profession and the community. The Chair will be integral in working with the Chair of Clinical and Practice Sciences to develop a fully integrated curriculum using many active learning opportunities.

  • Must have an earned doctorate degree (Pharm.D. or Ph.D. in a pharmaceutical or biomedical science field);
  • Credentials that support appointment at the rank of associate or full professor;
  • Academic and administrative experience;
  • Have a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges for pharmacy graduates;
  • Desire to help develop and be part of an innovative and integrated curriculum;
  • Have a strong career record of quality in teaching, scholarship, and service to both the profession and the community;
  • Experience with the ACPE and regional accreditation process;
  • Belief in teamwork as a priority both within the College, University, and Larkin Community;
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and written;
  • Above all, a commitment to be part of a learner-oriented community.
