Larkin Community Hospital has closed on a 48-acre purchase for a new medical school campus in the Naranja Lakes community near Homestead. The 10-year, $68 million investment would create 500 jobs in an area with an unemployment rate of 25.3 percent. In addition, the project will create "a world class educational facility that will prepare aspiring medical professionals to address ongoing critical health care needs on a local and national level and add a much needed option for Miami-Dade County's highly respected medical-educational community," says Larkin President and Chairman Dr. Jack Michel.
