Written on in Event, Neuroscience, Scientific Seminar.

Andres M. Alvarez-Pinzon, MD, PhD , presented three important abstracts at the 66th Annual Meeting of the Southern Neurosurgical Society, which was held on March 25–28, 2015 at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples, Florida. This is the 3rd more important conference in the United States. For some time prior to 1949, a group of neurosurgeons in the mid-South had exhibited interest in the prospect of meeting informally once or twice yearly to discuss mutual clinical and technical problems. Under the stimulus of Dr. R. Eustace Semmes, therefore, in November of 1949, invitations were sent to some fifty neurosurgeons to meet in Memphis to discuss the formation of the group. On November 29, 1949, twenty-three of the founding group met in Memphis for the first organizational scientific meeting. Since, then, the Southern Neurosurgical Society has met every year for 66 years in a row.Alvarez-Pinzon2This 2015 meeting was planned through an interactive program with an emphasis on updates on the advances in treatment of epilepsy, tumors, aneurysms, and complex spine disorders. It also hosted a session with an in-depth look at the neurosurgical quality and outcomes database; neurosurgery in the military; and the latest changes in Washington that affect the Society members. At this important meeting, Dr. Alvarez-Pinzon presented three abstracts, which are titled:

  • Percutaneous Retrogasserian Balloon Compression for the Treatment of Atypical Facial Pain in Multiple Sclerosis Patients Percutaneous Retrogasserian Balloon Compression for the Treatment of Drug Resistant Trigeminal Neuralgia in Multiple Sclerosis Patients
  • Retrospective, Single-center Study Evaluating the Efficacy of a Gamma Knife Radiosurgery in Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma in Immunosuppressive Patients
  • Andres M. Alvarez-Pinzon, MD, PhD; Jose E. Valerio, MD, FAANS; Marcos Sanchez - Gonzalez, MD, PhD; Aizik Wolf, MD, AANS, FAANSViability of Second Gamma Knife Radiosurgery vs Percutaneous Retrogasserian Balloon Compression for Secondary Trigeminal Neuralgia

Dr. Alvarez-Pinzon wrote these abstracts in colaboration with Dr. Aizik Wolf, Dr. Marcos Sanchez - Gonzalez, and Dr.Jose E. Valerio, from the Miami Neuroscience Center at Larkin.
