A Brief Message About Heart Disease
According to the CDC, heart disease is "the leading cause of death in America" with "655,000" heart disease related deaths occuring every year; that is "1 in every 4 deaths" in America. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2020) The term "heart disease" is used to describe a range of different cardiac problems that can occur suddenly in some cases, or be present at birth in others.
The most prevelant type of heart disease is coronary artery disease, or "CAD". This is when plaque builds up and narrows the artery, thereby constricting bloodflow. This condition can lead to heart attack and even death. Heart disease can occur in both sexes and all races and ethnic groups, which is why cardiology is so vital to our healthcare system.
Maintaing a heart healthy lifestyle can reduce the chances of developing heart disease, but once it has been diagnosed by a medical professional, prevention of disease progression should be the priority. Larkin Community Hospital offers elite cardiac care to prevent disease progression.

Cardiology Services
Most hospitals are equipped and staffed to run their cardiology services like an assembly line. This results in impersonal, one-size-fits-all care with referrals to multiple specialists in the group. Larkin cardiology is different. We believe that each patient is unique and has different needs. We stress the importance of preventing disease progression and provide a wide range of cardiology services ranging from clinical to interventional and electrophysiological cardiac care.
Larkin is the only hospital in S. Florida with a Cardiologist Board Certified in Integrative and Functional cardiology. To discuss the treatment of any cardiac condition such as high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, palpitations, cardiomyopathy, valvular heart disease, and diabetes or the prevention of heart diseases through heart healthy diets and weight loss, Larkin cardiologists are only a phone call or click away.
